Year 05 - Part Deux
These updates can get pretty long, but heck it sure is fun writing them (at least when I get around to it). Alright, let’s get this party started. So, after the not so good start in January, it seemed like it might be getting better and then Whammo! February stuck out it’s long leg and tripped us up pretty good (not literally, just with colds and flus and such). Somehow the three of us played the “cold and flu” tag for nearly a month and a half.
It was tough but somehow we made it through it all (sort of).
It was during this sickapalooza fun-fest that the most remarkable thing occurred, I was planning on upgrading the hard drive in my computer and left the case off for a few days (ed. Karen’s translation: more like a week or two) and one of Jaden’s sippy cups made its way into my computer and leaked milk all over the motherboard and nuked that thing all to hell! Luckily, the hard drive was able to be salvaged and I’ve been posting from my new Sony crazy machine… crazy as in kick ass. We also got a chance to get over being sick and see a few movies in there along the way. So that was February and the beginning of March in a nutshell.
Once we got better, sometime in the middle of March, Karen and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary in Palm Springs and tried a new hotel this time. You see, Karen and I have been going to the PS for a while now for its film festival in January and for just a nice relaxing getaway and we have a few regular places that we stay at and this time we decided to try something new… we will be going back to our regular hotels from now on! I’ll post the pictures soon, cause there is no way for me to really give you any descriptive visualization without those pictures. I really need to get those pictures up. But I will say this, I now know what happened to the Land of the Lost and Flo from Mel’s Diner. Kiss My Grits!
Next on my March news, my buddy Mark is getting married in April and I am honored to be his best man at the event and to send him off in style (no, we didn’t go wine tasting in central California, meet two alcoholic broads, and have an emotional life affirming cry together after having our faces beatin’ to a pulp by a pissed off woman with a motorcycle helmet… but man that sounds like fun!) we went to Mammoth for 3 days of skiing and snowboarding! The first day was a blast until, after a few falls throughout the morning on my part, my knee starting giving me trouble and I just couldn’t do this one run. I opted out for the toboggan ride down the mountain and went to the first aid station to sign my life away. I sat out a few runs to see if I it would feel better and then after trying one more time with Mark and our buddy Blair I had to sit out pretty much the rest of the day with the exception of the last run back to our lodge area and I baby’d that knee down the easiest run I could find. And even though I sat out the next day, I did get to have a few drinks and talk to the locals to catch up on the vibe of the mountain and had a blast doing so. I think a good time was had overall. However, I did find out that the stance of my bindings were moved too far apart which was a big factor in why my knee was hurting so bad. The board’s been fixed and I ready to go again. I’ll post pics of the trip soon.
I’ll end this thing by posting some recent DVD additions:
- Kimba the White Lion Vols. 1-4
- The Incredibles
- A Bug’s Life
- Bambi
- Clerks X: 10th Anniversary
P.S. I was unable to attend the 10th anniversary recording sessions for Clerks at the arclight so I am setting Karen and me up with tickets to see the full Q&A recording session for Mallrats at the same place. Can’t wait to see the completely uncensored version of the movie that Kevin and his crew are working on as we speak!
Peace out!

Congrats, Mr. Best Man! Better start writing that toast speech now. It takes time to do these things so that they sound impromptu.
