Big Box Bullseye Misses the Point
I’ve always been pretty harsh on the evils of Wal Mart and have shown my loyalty to the other Big Box store, Target but recently I’ve had to let go of that loyalty as they continue to support Full Screen DVDs. Now, I’ve been a long time supported of the widescreen format on many types of media, vhs, laserdisc, and dvd, but with the recent announcement that analogue TV signals will no longer be broadcast after February 2009, why can’t these Big Boxes help in alleviating the pain and confusion of Full Screen vs. Anamorphic Widescreen (16×9)? Working together with the FCC seems like a better deal than causing more anxiety in the general public. However, it seems the almighty dollar is once again more important than educating the masses. Selling off as many DVDs as possible in an inferior format just to clear out stock and then to have those customers come back frustrated and mad at the idea of having to re-buy product because it now looks funny or stretched on my new widescreen television is absolutely terrible to me. How hard is it to put up a basic placard or sign above the DVD section that informs customers about the product they are buying? For anyone who would like to know what is anamorphic widescreen and all the good eductional stuff that goes along with it… including pictures! Please click on the link below and feel the knowledge flowing through your vertabrae! End Rant.
