One Month Off

Posted by Scott in entertainment, family

Well it looks like the time off from the Site has had a nice, rejuvenating affect on me. I’ll start with where I left off and work my way up through recent events. So, as the new Willy Wonka likes to say, “Let’s Boogie…”

May 19-22
I took a few days off from work so the family could have some well-deserved fun time. Thursday we headed off to Disneyland and spent the day their like I never have before: chasing characters down for photo ops and an extended stay in Toontown! We did get a chance to see a little more than that but the waiting in line for Ariel the Little Mermaid, Chip N’ Dale the chipmunks, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey took up the majority of the day. Jaden’s first trip to the happiest place on earth was super fun and we can’t wait to go back! Thanks Joe for the mad phat help on everything D-land. Click on the pic of Jaden at the park for a whole slew of pics at my Kodak Gallery. Later that night we stayed over at the Disneyland hotel and made it a sleepover. The park looks glorious in its new gold and maroon look along with the clean-up job they did on the Sleeping Beauty’s castle.

Rock On, Mickey!

The next day we packed up and left Anaheim, dropped Jaden at the sitters for partial day, picked up our friend Andy, and headed to Hollywood for a crystal clear, digital performance of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith at the Arclight’s Cinerama Dome. One word: Stunning!!! This is the prequel I have been waiting for so long to see. It’s very dark, it’s extremely moody, and pretty much everything that’s been mentioned about the downfall of Anakin Skywalker is explained. Lot’s of people die in this thing and lot’s of gruesome imagery to be scene. Definitely my favorite out of the new trilogy and it climbs its way past Return of the Jedi to the third place spot. Thanks Lucas for finally getting it right.

The next day Karen, Cris, Andy, and I headed to Irvine for the KROQ Weenie Roast. The Weenie Roast is a big festival of popular alternative style bands held at a large outdoor venue that seats about 17,000 people. Overall, the concert was fun and the majority of the 15 plus bands were pretty good. The standouts for me were: The Foo Fighters who I have seen many times before and have never really put on a bad show. Audioslave was a big hit too. They are culmination of Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden and along with some of their original songs they played a few from their previous groups. They really jammed hard on the Rage songs and that was all I really needed for the night. But… the big push for me to go to this show was the surprise announcement of Motley Crue as the headlining act. One problem though… they sucked baaaaaad. It was real hard watching a band I grew up loving and seeing them in their prime play as bad as they did. They even left early and didn’t even take the opportunity to hit a home run with their famous heart-string pulling “Home Sweet Home!” The only song they did play good was Wildside, but it was too late by then. It was a sad day for Crue-heads.

Sunday was all about rest and recovery and lots of fun with Jaden!

Sounds like a fun weekend - nice pics too - looks like Jaden digs D-Land! What are those photo-mosaic things?

  3. Joe Says:

They’re photo-mosaics that are made up of photos that Guests uploaded to Disneyland.com over the past year. Actual Guests’ photos of their memories at Disneyland. There are about 20 of them around Disneyland park that are of different characters or scenes from Disney movies. Guests who participated received emails that let them know where in the park their photos were used to help them locate them.

    Pretty cool stuff.

  4. Mark Says:

Pretty nifty - so my next question is, what is that little console in front of the mosaic?

  5. Chris Says:

    Absolutely Awesome Photo!
