Holy Hollywood, Batman!

A quick entertainment update before I get to “Mad Phat Month of Fun – Part II.”

Six Feet Undersixfeetunder
This show is absolutely having their best run yet this season, which just happens to be their fifth and final season. This is truly a top-notch show with some of the best character development I have ever seen on television. The last three episodes have been wonderfully fulfilling and completely shocking all at once, where main characters die and there’s no series finale build up, twists, or turns, life just happens on this show and now there are only two episodes left and I can’t wait. I highly, highly recommend watching this show, since all seasons (with the exception of the present season) are now available on DVD. Get it and watch it and enjoy these superb actors doing superb acting to excellent scripts.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
buffyI’ve been completely mesmerized by this show as of late and have recently finished the first season which was good but the second season is nothing but astonishing and the writing skills of Joss Whedon are truly remarkable. The cast is great and fun and seem to really enjoy getting into their characters and playing around with some extremely entertaining storylines. This is another show I highly recommend and you might even get a good chuckle out of some of the campy, cheasy effects.

Some Quick Movie Highlights and Lowlights:

Dukes of Hazzard
Not too good! If you must see it, then see it for the car chases and the chemistry between Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott, but please nothing else!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Really fun but not as great as I thought it would be. Yet, it was so much closer to the book than the original film which clearly helped a lot, but some of Wonka’s childhood backstory took away from the film for me (even though Christopher Lee is brilliant). Still, it’s highly recommended.

War of the Worlds
Spielberg looks like he had really good time with this updated remake. I enjoyed so much of this movie that when the ending rolled around I was pretty let down. I know the ending is fairly true to the book, but I felt that it could have explained itself just a little more than what it did.

Batman Begins
Stunning! Beautiful! This is how a Batman movie should be made and how I will expect the next one and the one after that to be made from now on! I definitely want to see a revamped Joker or Bane.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Wow! This is what I wanted all along. From the anticipation of Episode I and the eventual let-down, to the better yet still flawed Episode II, to this. Do I still have questions? Yes. Are there continuity issues? Yes. Will any Star Wars film ever be perfect? No (except Empire comes close!) Did I get to see the battle of all lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin finally? Yes, and it lived up to everything I ever imagined and then some. Thank you, Mr. Lucas for giving us a fun, yet dark, PG-13 Star Wars film that really needed to be told.

I’m sure I’m missing a few things and if I get my act together I’ll post whatever I overlooked soon enough. I should be back with “Mad Phat Month of Fun – Part II” fairly soon. Until then, enjoy.
