Warm and Fuzzy Weekend

Posted by Scott in family

Roxy had her follow-up visit to the vet on Saturday. She has put some weight back on and she seems to more active than she has been from the week prior. She’s still on the meds and we do have to monitor her eating to make sure she’s getting enough but hopefully after another few weeks she might be back up to full steam.

Later on that day we headed over to Jaden’s friend Laurel for her birthday party where a bunch of kids went party crazy. She got a ton of toys and the kids got a chance to do some serious running around. The adults stuck around later for some pool shooting fun and hanging out time while the kids slowly wound down (ok, they really didn’t wind down at all) watching some movies.

Uncle Greg stopped by to rip out some bushes in the front of the house and while that was going on my dad stopped in for a visit. It’s good to see him come by and hang out with Jaden since he was back east for the first couple of years of Jaden’s life. Now Jaden is getting to know grandpa and it’s a blast to see them playing in the backyard and picking lemons and tangerines.

Jaden and I watched the Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon DVD and practiced his menacing lightsabers skills. I do have a few bruises and battered knuckles to show from his wicked back swing! I have to say the kid is good and he has a powerful force blast too. On Sunday, Karen, Jaden and I sat down to watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Jaden favorite scenes were when the kids ran into Fluffy the three-headed dog and when the troll gets loose in the castle. But his absolute favorite was the Quidditch match. He was so involved everytime Gryffindor scored a point and when Harry caught the Golden Snitch and the crowd roared to life on screen he just went nuts. I did have to skip the Voldermort scene at the end but overall he really got into it. I can’t wait to read these books to him soon.

I’m reading “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” to my kids at bed time. They’re totally digging it. I’ve got the HP movies, but am not quite sure if they’re ready for that. I don’t remember how intense they were… I fell asleep in the theater for the second movie, so that shouldn’t be a problem, I guess. :-) I did show them Ep III: ROTS, but skipped some of the more intense/gory scenes (like Mace’s death and Vader all burnt up like a weenie).

How’s A handling it? She’s about Jaden’s age and he still likes to have a lot of pictures to go along with the text. The scariest thing for Jaen in the Harry Potter 1 was that ending and I made sure to skip through it!

She’s been very nice to sit and listen to the story being read, but I can tell that sometimes she’s a little bored. So I try to animate my face, change my voice for different characters… you know… makes it more fun for everybody. She asked if we could take a break and read something else, so last night all the ponies from “My Little Pony” went to the extremely colorful fair to ride rides and play carnival games.
