2009 Is Outta Here and Already a Month Behind!
Well 2009 was a crazy, wacky year and it’s finally over! Here’s hoping 2010 is a million times better (so far it’s not much better).
I missed a lot of months on this blog so I will make up for some of that by posting a recap of some cool events from last year as well as up-to-date news from this year…
I’ll get all the crazy stuff out of the way first. Karen ended last year sick and it continued well in to the new year for most of January. She was disagnosed with conflicting things but in the end it was some freak mutation of Bronchitus (or another CDC experiment on the population gone awry ala Stephen King’s The Stand). She’s better now and no world wide epidemic broke out so… WHEW! Oh wait, there was a freaky epidemic. Jaden somewhere in January ended up with Strept throat which progressed into Scarlet Fever! Don’t worry with a lot of rest, 3 days off from school and plenty of antibiotics he is just fine now! WHEW… Again!
The first wave of intense Southern California rains took the Evanskeys by storm (hehe, I can laugh about it now) and wiped out the side of the house/backyard and flooded our garage. Whatever cardboard boxes were remaining on the ground in the garage are now gone as well as a ton of personal belongings. I’m still working on organizing and throwing stuff away from the aftermath and more rain recently hit us again and mini levee broke allowing another river to pass through once more. Most of the area was cleaned out and no damage was done. I will be working on building a better drainage system from the backyard to the street when weather and time permits but for now I have a temporary drain ditch built and it works decent enough.
Some good news… Finally! Jaden’s first Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby Race was a blast. Although Jaden had a rockin’ fast car he came in 17th place out of 87 cars and unfortunately the final races only included the top 16. MAN! one position off… that was tough to chew! The sad news was we had to leave to get ready for Jaden’s action class and we were not informed of the races by rank (Jaden is a Wolf). They kept all the cars at the race and raced Jaden’s without us and he got 2nd place! So although we missed the actual race his bitchin car got 17 out 87 and 2nd out of all the wolf packs! Awesome Job, Jaden! We should be getting his ribbon at the next den meeting.

For all my readers (family, friends, and followers), thanks for sticking around to see if I ever would post again. I’ll try to be more dilligent in my writings.
On a Sad and Final Note:
Karen’s Aunt Florence succumbed to lymphoma on January 24th.
Florence you were a great and kind woman. Thank you for being such an important part of our family. We feel so grateful to spend the time we could with you and all of our east coast family. The three of us loved the phone calls and your always uplifting talks, Florence. You meant the world to Karen, Jaden and me. We miss you so much Aunt Florence!
We love you!
