Flashback… Flashforward?

Posted by Scott in family, school, sports

This week is sports week at J’s school and specifically tomorrow is “wear your favorite team’s shirt/jersey” day. We here at the Evanskeys aren’t big on the sports apparel so I dug out my old little league uniform and presto J is now going to be a New York Mets fan for the day.

Soak City

Posted by Scott in entertainment, school

One day back from vacation and we here at the Evanskey Compound were already prepping for Friday’s school field trip to Soak City, Knott’s Berry Farm. J was amped and I was somehow volunteered into this day of hot sun, sun block and tons of chlorinated water gushing thrill rides. Originally I had 4 kids […]

The Fourth and Beyond

UPDATE: Click on the pics for more photos!
July is nearing warp speed for the Evanskeys. I just caught my breath and realized the month is half over (or only halfway begun) and I have posted not one single thing. Well shame on me. Get ready to pause that DVR cause I’m hold down the fast-forward […]

English No Mas

Posted by Scott in books, school

Tuesday was my last day in English at Long Beach City and I wrapped it up by turning in a 5 page essay on the illusions of the American Dream as portrayed in the novel The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle. A frustratingly and sometimes agitating effort but overall a good portrayal of these very […]

End of School Year Madness

Posted by Scott in family, school

So last week J’s class had their Nature Center Field Trip hike and I got wrangled into volunteering in keeping the little munchkins somewhat organized, constantly moving forward, and otherwise out of trouble. It was a blast. The kids were led through a “backstage” area or off-trail area of the Nature Center and were able […]

FPS

So tomorrow is a big day for my programming class. I am presenting with my teammates our first person shooter game that we just finished up this week. This is a huge step from the last 2D game I did and you might see that by the screen shots I have uploaded down below. This […]

Busy Bee

Posted by Scott in family, school

So, Mr. J is definitely utilizing his time as a kinder to get the most done in life besides playing outside, watching TV, and video games. He is now booked on Tuesdays with soccer, Wednesdays with Kidnastics, and then takes an extra class after school on Fridays in EspaƱol. He’s starting to make my schedule […]

Cutting the Grades and the Grooves

Posted by Scott in family, school, snowboarding

Well Jaden has been doing pretty darn good at school and while he was visiting with grandma over the spring break Karen and I decided to do the big rewards thing for him. Today after I picked him up and we got home we presented him with his very own snowboard and equipment. We were […]

Welcome to the Third Dimension, Scott!

Posted by Scott in programming, school

Well the week before spring break certainly has been a tough one and it isn’t even over yet. This week our water heater went out on Sunday and we didn’t get the repairman and the replacement part out until Wednesday! Apparently, the company that makes our water heater is in a class action lawsuit because […]

The 100th Day

Posted by Scott in family, school

Jaden’s school does a project for the 100th day and his class had poster boards that needed 100 items divided up into pieces of 10. So, being so close to Valentine’s Day we chose to use candy hearts as his 100 items and here is the finished product.

Elementary My Dear Readers

Posted by Scott in books, entertainment, school

Hello People,
You may (or may not) be asking yourselves “Why has Scott been all ghosty-like from his Web site lately?” Well the sad, simple truth is school has been hell… well not school itself but rather the admissions and registrations side of it. Yes Matt Groeing’s early work “School is Hell” rings so true to […]

Turkey, Projects, and Programming

Posted by Scott in family, friends, school, video games

This week was pretty jam-packed for the Evanskeys. I was able to finish off my DVD project for my grandmother and presented it after Thanksgiving dinner at my Uncle John’s pad. So with that out of the way school was still on for me Wednesday and Saturday which made things a little stressful in that […]

My Seinfeld of the Day

Posted by Scott in school

Cell phone talkers get a bad rap although I believe in most cases they are justifiably deserved, especially you textaholics out there! But my latest run in with these low-lives happened at my school.
Interior - College Administration Office
Slacker dude hears a distinctive ring coming from his pocket and motions to answer it. He then proceeds […]

What I’m…

Posted by Scott in family, friends, music, school, television, video games

…watching:
Reaper, Weeds, Californication (Season 1 just ended), Dexter (absolutely the best show on television), Desperate Housewives, The Office, Scrubs, and currently burning through the 5th season of Buffy with Karen. Getting her up to speed on all things Buffy/Angel has been a blast and not once have I felt bored or distracted, which goes to […]

Squidly

Posted by Scott in family, school, science

One of the two sessions we attended last night at Science Night was squid dissection. Don’t ask me how it all happened but somehow we were whirlwinded into a classroom and given forceps and scissors and a tray with a dead squid! But there was Jaden and mom being troopers about it and dug in […]
